UN ‘demands’ Middle East ceasefire

Add a comment

“Hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah militants in Lebanon must stop immediately, UN Secretary General Kofi Annan has said” reports the BBC.

Yet how likely is it that the Israel or Hezbollah will listen to him? I doubt that the Israeli’s will stop doing what they have always done before - ignore dissenting opinion - and Hezbollah are no more likely to take note of this ‘demand’ from Kofi Annan as they did when the UN passed resolution 1559 in 2004 (which called for the disarming of militias as well as the withdrawal of foreign (i.e about 14,000 Syrian) forces from Lebanon.)

The Middle East is always on the verge of one catastrophe or another. And while the fault for this lies on both sides, Israel could, and should, take the lead in making ‘peace’. But when pics like this come up, then it just shows that Israel simply cannot seem to be able to set aside bad history. Instead, they appear to want to pollute the next generation too.
