‘I Can’ Miliband Told ‘You Can’t and Won’t’

David Milibland, ‘gay icon‘, and who believes that he is in touch with the “I can” generation (despite no such generation existing - all generations have “I need”, “I want” and “I can” parts [the best evaluation of this I've read is this post by Bel]), has been told that was he to stand against Gordon Brown for the Labour leadership, he would be a “human sacrifice” because Gordo is “head and shoulders” above any other potential candidate. Presumably Margaret Beckett is remembering being thrashed by Tony Blair in 1994. I can’t help but wonder what Gordo has promised her in return for making this attack - maybe for this she’ll get to keep a Cabinet job, despite being useless with Iran, and failing at DEFRA.

Beckett also seems to be taking a sideways swipe at Clarke and Milburn’s ‘Vision 20/20′ and other ardent anti-Brownites when she says:

“I think, ‘Poor David’. It is complete nonsense. He is very bright. He is a very good minister. I am sure that he will be a major contender at some time in the future. But should he take this step to satisfy someone else’s prejudices? He would be daft.” (BBC)

Although reports suggest that the Conservatives view Miliband as a “lean green barrier to No10“, having set up a ’stop Miliband’ team, I doubt that it’s really all that. Milibland would be a fool to stand against Brown - he’d be far better simply to get himself a secure senior position in a Brown Cabinet, and then be ready to stand for leader after Brown loses (or at least doesn’t win) the next general election.

I can’t see Miliband being stupid enough to stand against Gordo - he’d get eaten up and spat back out with no trouble at all. He;’s best biding his time, and waiting for Gordo’s dream of himself as Prime Minister to crash down around his ears, and then step in and lift the Labour torch from Gordo’s cold, dead hands. Certainly a far better prospect than becoming a chew toy.

Now Thunderdragon - that’s plain naughty, that tombstone.

As for the Beckett, does NuLabour breed this particular kind of pernicious, gutless in adversity but dangerous behind the scenes PC lover at Minister school?

Thank you for the kind words in your post, TD. :)

As for Miliband, I’m sure he won’t win, but it would be good for our entertainment all round if he were to challenge Brown, anyway.

Love the headstone image. Well done.

Sorry James, I just couldn’t resist!

I agree, Bel - there is no way Miliband could win. Since Miliband won’t stand, hopefully Clarke or Milburn (or someone else) will decide to be human sacrifices instead. The entertainment value really would be immense!
