Police Commandeered Pedal Power

Haven’t got a squad car? Commandeer a rickshaw instead! Well, that’s what two PCs decided to do anyway!

They received a distress call from a colleague on the other side of Hereford, to which they would not be able to get to in time on foot, at the same time as two “pedicabs” came into view. Since they were empty, the drivers [or should it be cyclists?] were pressed into action, and headed off. Along the way, one of the PCs made siren noises to try and help clear the road.

Luckily, they got to their colleague in time to help arrest the man who was then remanded in custody.

It is certainly a unique type of police chase - and I’m sure it’s also the kind of thing that won’t catch on. Pedalling a rickshaw is sure to be far too much hard work!

The “pedicabs”, however, certainly look a like a novel and environmentally friendly form of transport - and should be nice during the summer! Not so much fun when it rains or cold, though…

The pedicab drivers/cyclists have a blog here.
