The Liberal Democrats are said to be “
hopeful” of achieving a vote in the House of Commons on their
absurd idea of holding a referendum on Britain’s membership of the EU -
rather than on the Lisbon Treaty.
Yeah, right. In the same way that I’m hopeful that tomorrow I’ll win millions on the lottery without buying a ticket.
They walked out of Chamber just a couple of days over the Speaker’s refusal to grant them a referendum. Unfortunately they haven’t stayed out since. But they’re never going to get anywhere near having a referendum on EU membership.

So Prince Harry, third in line to the throne, is fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan, Helmand Province. And? This makes bugger all difference. Who cares? It’s not like he’s ever expected to become King Henry IX. He’s the “spare”, as they say.
He’s supposed to be making a proper army career, not just doing it as work experience. If he were to be prevented from going to the front line, this would be impossible. That he was not sent to Iraq was probably a good thing, on balance, considering the heat of the fighting there. But Afghanistan, on the other hand, isn’t as dangerous to the other soldiers.
The media blackout over Harry’s trip was good. If it had been common knowledge that he was there from the start, that would have made it dangerous for his fellow soldiers. That is was broken by foreign media, however, was bad. They should be ashamed of themselves.
However, the massive amount of reports over Harry’s tour of duty now that it has been broken is massively unnecessary. There is no need for an extended BBC News. It’s really not important enough. Were they to be focusing on the entire situation in Afghanistan, yes. But not when the entire focus is on Harry himself.

A new Conservative ad campaign has been launched, showing the changes that a Conservative government will bring to Britain. With the campaign is a new video setting out these changes, which you can watch here, via the new Conservative party Facebook page. David Cameron explains the new campaign in the video below:
One thing I don’t get though is the idea of becoming a “friend” of the party, but not a member. Doesn’t really make much sense to me, but hey.

I have just come across some extremely beautiful music, performed by an amazing singer: Callaghan. She has just realised her first EP, which can be bought here or downloaded from iTunes.
There are a couple of her songs available to listen to on her website, but for a taster here is a video of her performing:

Liberal Democrat MPs walk out of the House of Commons…
…in a huff as part of a pre-arranged stunt after their ridiculous call for a referendum on Britain’s membership of the EU - rather than over the current Constitution “Treaty” being debated - was denied by the Speaker.
Are they now going to stay out of the Commons?
Please, please do.
At least for the rest of this debate.
Please? Pretty please? With a cherry on top?
It’s not as if they add anything to the discussion, anyway!

Public pensions to cost us £1 trillion?!
Public sector pensions are set to cost taxpayers £1,025 billion - or £40,000 for every household over the next 20 years - according to figures released today…
There are 5.8 million public sector workers in Britain and their pensions are costing taxpayers £18 billion a year. (The Telegraph)
Now that is one hell of a lot of money. And money that we have to pay. There is no denying that it is disgustingly high.

Nick Clegg wants a vote on EU membership but not on the EU Constitution ‘Lisbon Treaty’.
How does this make any sense?
If you consider that the British people should have vote over whether or not they stay within the European Union, surely you also think that they should have a say over the direction in which it develops? You can’t seriously believe that the people should have a choice over membership but not the direction in which that organisation develops.
If a referendum is held on the Treaty and the British people vote “yes”, then it is obvious that they want to stay within the EU. If they vote “no”, then the issue of EU membership itself becomes an issue.
I agree completely with Nigel Farage, leader of UKIP, over this when he says:
Whilst in the long term I agree that this is the referendum we want, calling for it at this time is only to cover up their weasel-like position over a referendum.
Instead of hiding behind this call, they [the Lib Dems] should be honouring the promise they made to their voters that they would support a referendum on this treaty.
The Lib Dem leadership should either back a referendum on the Treaty or finally accept that they don’t want the British people to vote on the EU at all.
The Lib Dem membership seem to want to back a referendum on the Treaty, so why don’t the leadership? Is it because they’re chicken, and want to be able to sit on the fence? Yes, of course it is.

It’s all well and good to say that soldiers should act morally at all times, this is really taking it to the extreme:
All soldiers are to be issued with a guide to moral behaviour to be carried in their top pockets, as a reminder of the good conduct required whether on the battlefield or in barracks…
Soldiers are also to be given morality instruction by Army chaplains who are being trained to provide guidance in ethics and morals. Soldiers who shine in the morality stakes will be awarded with good-conduct chevrons: upside down stripes worn on the left sleeve of their dress uniform. (The Times)
Part of a soldier’s job is to kill. If they go into battle, what should they be doing:
(a) checking their morality handbook, or
(b) trying to stay alive and kill the enemy.
Which would you do? Me too.
This really is an absurd idea. Ensuring that soldiers understand what is acceptable moral behaviour and what isn’t is surely good practice. But expecting them to carry around a guide to moral behaviour is ridiculous and demeaning to our soldiers.

Viagra: Sex but no consequences.
The anti-impotence drug Viagra could harm men’s fertility, scientists have warned.
New research suggests that the drug can damage sperm and so prevent some men from starting a family.
The findings mean that young men who take the drug recreationally could be damaging their chances of starting a family… (The Telegraph)
This doesn’t have to be a bad thing, but it depends on the reasons behind taking Viagra in the first place! Though why young men would need to be taking Viagra recreationally, I don’t know…
