Have you ever worked in a call centre? You get barked at for having your phone in not-ready/unavailable/after-call/etc. for more than 5 seconds in order to yawn, get a cuppa, scratch your ear, etc. The company I currently work for were fairly lax, allowing a whole minute between calls, but after a change in work rules and subsequent haemorrhaging of staff in response to silly new work rules, now if you're over 15 seconds off the phone, you're in trouble.
