Fat Pride
I can’t believe that there is actually such a thing as a fat pride groups. It’s not that there’s anything wrong per se with being fat, but it isn’t something that people should be proudof.
Being happy with yourself is all well and good. It is how people should be, and certainly far preferable to constant worrying about your body. But the very idea of “fat pride” is really quite abhorrent.
Being obese is not a good thing. It is just unhealthy. Whilst it is entirely up to individual what their body shape is and how they regard it, to form groups focusing on celebrating their obesity and attacking anyone who points it out for what it is - plain unhealthy - is taking it waaay too far.

Easy to say at your age TD. Come back and say that when you are 40. I am not going to join any “Fat Pride” marches, though I am probably bigger than Homer Simpson. No rational group attacks anyone for pointing out the obvious about weight and health, but The fact is that the definition of obesity is ridiculous. The bigger members of the England rugby team will have a BMI which says they are officially obese. There’s something to be said for challenging stupid puritanical definitions. However, you won’t see me signing up for victim status, tempting though that is is a society which values victimhood over success. All I would say to you is watch out if these pressure groups take off. There are enough fat people sick of being nagged by Nanny to decide any election.
They can be fat all they like - it’s their own body and choice.
It is simply “fat pride” groups to which I object.

If only that were true. I carried no excess weight until I turned 50. I still can’t believe that I am overweight. While not officially obese I have battled for twenty years with this problem. Trust me it’s easy to say lose weight but the reality is so different.
I’m not joining any fat pride group either but perhaps those who do will find some support instead of the discrimination and worse that they often are confronted with.
