Ian Oakley: Guilty

ian-oakley-guilty

This has been a hard post for me to write, especially since I was on holiday when this fact emerged.

Ian Oakley, former Conservative PPC for Watford, is guilty of harassment and criminal damage towards Watford Lib Dems. I didn’t think that he was, but he is. I stand corrected.

What he has done is completely unacceptable. And he deserves what he gets for it. Unlike Asp, a contributor to this blog, who wrote a post on this subject whilst I was on holiday, I am certainly notleft with the classic comment “So what?”.” What he has done is so very very wrong. It would be wrong is he wasn’t a politician and these actions had been done for any other reason, and is abhorrent because it was done for political reasons. He has effectively attempted to subvert democracy.

He has already lost any chance of a political career, and faces a jail term. And also appears to be facing questions over his psychological state.

I fully support the idea of a full inquiry into this. Nothing less can be done. But the very idea that by-elections should be held for three local councillor positions won by Watford Conservatives since 2006 is ridiculous. It is not worth the cost of the by-elections, considering the massive Lib Dem majority on the council it certainly is not affecting their ability to make decisions. Really, the hate campaign failed since the Lib Dems certainly weren’t adversley affected by it.

Ian is not someone I thought would - or could - have done these disgusting things. Unfortunately we are all wrong sometimes, and I was this time. Ian will get his just desserts.

    Well said young Thunderdragon.

No-one could have imagined that a PPC in this day and age would have behaved in such a reckless and destructive way. Good riddens to him.

Can someone please let me know Ian Oakley’s address, or the name and address of his solicitor? Now that he has pleaded guilty to his offences, my insurer informs me that they would like to pursue Mr Oakley for the damage he caused at my property. From my point of view, this will mean getting my excess refunded, and should also mean that my premiums won’t be affected by my Oakley claim. Alarmingly, I have just been quoted double the price of my usual premium…

Stephen, I am sure that your insurer could find it out if they wished to pursue him.

  5. Stephen Kent

I’m sure they can, and I hope they do.

I am new to all this. I am only doing what my insurer asked me to do:

‘Get more information on Mr Oakley, and we will pursue him for our losses.’

If you don’t know who Mr Oakley’s solicitor is, and cannot do anything to find out, I will accept that. But if you can assist me, I am expecting you to do so out of nothing more than common decency.

    If I knew, I would. But I don’t.

    Thanks.

For Stephen’s benefit it took me about three minutes to find Oakley’s address and telephone number. The street and town was published in the Telegraph and the rest can be do via BT’s online phone book.

If you are a genuine victim of Oakley you have my sympathy, but I am astonished that neither you or your insurer have mastered Google yet.

You say there should not be a by-eleciton in those Tory seats, but weren’t some of those seats won on small margins which must have been aided by mr oakley’s hate campaign ?

They might have been, but I don’t really think they were.

Simply, holding those by-elections is not worth the cost, considering the massive majority that the Lib Dems have on the council. If it was a close thing, there could be some point. But there isn’t.

What by-elections would also do is effectively criminalise those councillors, and the by-election would be held over the Oakley issue, rather than with regard to the excellent work that those councillors do.

It proves my point that the starting point in judging politicians should be that they are selfish, evil, crooked and should be shot. Only when they actually prove they aren’t these things should they be treated with respect and we shouldn’t rush into to making such judgements until they are long dead and buried.
