About

First things first: All opinions expressed on this blog are my own and do not necessarily reflect those of any or all groups to which I belong.

Now that that’s out of the way…

The ThunderDragon is the blogging pseudonym used by Chris Hawes. I first started using the pseudonym because it sounded pretty cool at the time [June 2006] and I wasn’t sure whether or not I wanted to use my actual name. But, as you can see, I decided that I don’t care any more.

Politics

As this is a political blog, I suppose that I better explain my general political philosophy. So, let’s start with the obvious: I am a member of the Conservative Party, and fully support the modernising agenda that is currently under way within the party. I am also the Conservative candidate for the local council ward of Leavesden in Three Rivers District Council. In the 2008 local elections, I increased my vote share from 17.6 to 21.6% of the votes. But this is a personal, not campaign, blog.

I am a libertarian. I think that people are best served when they make their own choices. As such, I oppose the creep towards the Nanny State and Big Brother society. I believe in reducing taxes where it is possible to do so without undue harm to basic state services, and reducing tax in a manner which benefits those who need it most.

Beyond that, well, you can just read my posts.

Personal

I am a recent graduate of the University of Essex, with a degree in Modern History and Politics. In my free time I am active in Scouting as a Scout Leader, I am a first aider with St. John Ambulance, a cyclist, and a mountain climber.

79th best Conservative Blog - Iain Dale's Guide to Political Blogging 2006

54th Right of Centre blog - Iain Dale's Guide to Blogging 2007

"I like the way he handles a broad range of subjects in an engaging and friendly manner. Definitely one of the good guys." - Croydonian

"Right-Wing blogging from a UK student. A fresh perspective on a plethora of events with a healthy interest in shelf-stacking to boot." - Cityunslicker

"One of the more depressing aspects of blogging and the modern world is seeing reams of text on a page. The Thunder Dragon's mixture of politics and fun posts, with good illustrations and quickly made points makes his blog an accessible and fun place to discuss and think about politics... The Thunderdragon is one of the rising stars of conservative blogging" - Gracchi

"Already an A lister, technical whiz Thunder Dragon shows that not all A listers are stuck up stats groupies who’d sell their grandmothers for more traffic. And he’s on Iain Dale’s list for a reason – he’s simply a fine blogger, scoring highly on the ten point Dale criteria and with his finger always on the political pulse. He's also the technical brains behind Blogpower, along with Ian at Imagined Community." - James Higham

"The ThunderDragon consistently provides an interesting and enjoyable read - always entertaining and often insightful. His writing may even give us a foretaste of our political future. Stick with him. After all, time will cure his youth." - Tom Paine

"Thunder Dragon - Provocative and inventive, especially for this post about how to sort out the USA." - Matt Wardman

"... a cheeky young fire breather" - DuSanne

"A lovely little political blog... The articles are competently written with a small levening of opinion but not too much to annoy" - Baht At
