Wardman Wire Online Symposia

wardman-wireDevolving England, the last Wardman Wire Online Symposium that ran during October is now available as a PDF download.

An online symposium is a series of articles from a range of viewpoints on a common subject over several days. We are experimenting with this as a way of encouraging thoughtful debate amongst bloggers and others. Each series of articles is published on the Wardman Wire, and also as a PDF download - as an experiment in making blog-debate available more widely.

There were 5 contributors to the Devolving England symposium:

  1. First up - Dave Cole thinks its A Long Way to Westminster.
  2. Following on, Garbo looks at prospects for an English Parliament.
  3. In response, Matt Wardman looks at the multifarious levels of government we now have and suggests a judicious shave with Ockham’s Razor.
  4. The Thunderdragon looks at devolution and democratisation.
  5. And Damian Hockney, late of the London Assembly, gives us his take on devolution after his time at City Hall - warning us to be wary of booby traps.

It was a very interesting symposium and created quite a lot of discussion.

At the Wardman Wire, we are planning to do a number of symposia in 2009, ideally around one a month - and we are looking for sponsorship.

We offer:

  1. Co-branding of the articles and PDF within the series.
  2. A logo displayed in each article at the top, and an acknowledgement.
  3. A logo on the front page of the PDF download and a description of your organisation and services.
  4. We can also include advertising on the website at a reduced rate.
  5. Your logo appears in the Excerpt for each article, which means that it also appears in our site RSS feeds.
  6. The article sponsorships are permanent.

Pretty New Blog Theme!

thunderdragon-logoLess than five months after I first moved to Wordpress, I have had another change - but just of theme this time.

I was getting a bit bored of the old one, but I think this one is far fresher and nicer, and hopefully more user friendly as well!

Please let me know what you think of the new design!

I am now back after my to week Scouting holiday in Scotland.

We went hill walking, sailing, white water rafting, horse riding, mountain biking, canoeing, and more.

I think I need a holiday to get over it…

Hopefuly blogging will return to normal at some point over the next week.

Off On Holiday

I’m off on holiday. Like the politicians, I’m going to stay within Britain. I am in fact going up to Scotland, just north of the place of Gordon Brown’s latest disaster.

I’ll be away for two weeks sailing, hill walking, white water rafting, horse riding, and many other activities. The main downside being the eight hour trip on a coach with about 40 Scouts!

I’ve set a few posts up to be published over the next few weeks and hopefully a few guest posts too.

Hello World!

ThunderDragonThe ThunderDragon is now a brand new blog!

I have moved platforms from Blogger to Wordpress for the extra editing ability and because Wordpress just works better. It is still on the same URL address - http://www.thethunderdragon.co.uk - and all direct links should still work. Please let me know if you find one that doesn’t!

If you have a link to the old blogger address for this blog, please change it to the new one. The old Blogger blog has been closed down, and all blogging will continue here. All the old posts and comments have also been copied across to this blog.

The RSS link should be the same, so you don’t need to change a thing to continue getting my posts in your RSS reader!

However, the new template isn’t yet entirely complete and a few edits will be made over the next week or so. Please let me know what you think of the new design, either in the comments or by email!

UPDATE: Oops, I forgot to add that this is all possible thanks to a lot of help from Matt Wardman. Thanks, Matt!

… running around Wembley Stadium, the scene of England’s defeat two days ago.

So there’ll most likely be no blogging today.

I just realised that this is to be my one thousandth post here on this blog.

It really doesn’t seem all that long ago that I posted for the first time, and even less so when 100 posts was quite a number!

Since I started, this blog has been through a couple of template redesigns and a new domain name, and posts covering a wide number of political - and non-political - issues.

I have enjoyed writing the past thousand posts, and I hope you have enjoyed reading all of the ones which you have read - and I thank for doing so. I have enjoyed reading the comments which readers have posted, and long may it continue!

Hopefully you’ll stick around for, and enjoy reading, my next thousand posts!

New Domain Name

You can now access this blog through a brand new domain name - www.thethunderdragon.co.uk.

All old links will still work, however, and there is no need to change any links, since it should all be automatically forwarded to the new address.

I just thought it was about time, since neither the cost or effort are all that much!

Number 54!
The GUIDE TO POLITICAL BLOGGING 2007 is published this week. Featured among the 288 pages are a myriad of blog lists. Now for the TOP 100 RIGHT OF CENTRE BLOGS. This list was compiled by a panel of 12 right wing bloggers. Bearing in mind who they chose as Number 1 I should make clear that I had no part in it!

54 79 Thunder Dragon

Excellent result for me! I pretty much agree the rest of the list. There are a few that I would move up and down, but not a huge number.

The full list is here.

I have installed a new widget in the sidebar on the right, called BlogRush.

It seems like it should be quite good, providing a way to find other blog posts and into advertise mine at the same time.
