You may have noticed that the single biggest story at the moment has be remarkably absent from this blog. The reason this is partly that I’m not really directly affected by it at the moment, given my situation:
-
I don’t have a mortgage
-
I don’t have stocks and shares
-
I don’t have savings of more than the compensation limit in any one bank
-
I don’t have any dependents
-
I don’t have any loans
-
I have a job that isn’t likely to be at any risk
-
I have plenty of disposible income
Hence, the economic crisis isn’t likely to directly affect me and so I find it rather hard to get all that interested in the topic.
Especially since it’s such a complicated issue and there is no clear or correct answer.
So I’m not going to write about it much, except maybe to throw a few stones from the sidelines.

I am now back after my to week Scouting holiday in Scotland.
We went hill walking, sailing, white water rafting, horse riding, mountain biking, canoeing, and more.
I think I need a holiday to get over it…
Hopefuly blogging will return to normal at some point over the next week.

I’m off on holiday. Like the politicians, I’m going to stay within Britain. I am in fact going up to Scotland, just north of the place of Gordon Brown’s latest disaster.
I’ll be away for two weeks sailing, hill walking, white water rafting, horse riding, and many other activities. The main downside being the eight hour trip on a coach with about 40 Scouts!
I’ve set a few posts up to be published over the next few weeks and hopefully a few guest posts too.

I have some good news and some bad news.
Good news: I am now a warranted Assistant Scout Leader [having been on a provisional warrant for the last few months] after completing the required training modules. Now I’m working my way towards my Wood Badge.
Bad news: There will be no posts* this weekend (inc. bank holiday Monday) as I am on a Scout camp. Unfortunately, it seems like it’s going to rain. All weekend.
* or at least not many - depending if I have the time to wrote a couple before I go.

Yesterday I bought myself a Wii.
Such fun!
And far more involving than ‘normal’ video game consoles, sicne you have to move with the game and there is an obvious link between what you do and what happens in the game, rather than just button-bashing.
The main downside is that my right arm is now hurting after several hours of nigh-on constant use!
But anyway - great fun! So the quantity and quality, or at least what quality there is, might be hit by the Wii addiction RSI injury game playing.

One tick in the box! I have achieved one of the
eight wishes for 2008. Quite appropriately, no 1.
- To get a permanent job.
Achieved just over a week ago. Hurrah!
Now, for the other seven…

They’re just not content with charging every students thousands upon thousands of pounds every year that we are at university. They want to cost us graduates an extra £500m per year interest.
It will take me more than five years before I start paying off the capital on my £9,000 student loan [plus, of course, my student account overdraft]. I will start paying off the hundreds of pounds that has been added as interest on my loan next month, so I will be about 28 before I even start paying off the capital on my loan.
Why is this? Because in 2003 the government decided to change the official measure of inflation from the Retail Price Index (RPI), to the lower Consumer Price Index (CPI) - but without changing the Student Loan interest rates. Luckily for me, I am earning more than the minimum amount for graduates to start paying off their loan - £15,000 - already, so I’m less screwed than many.
Graduates are to be used to plug the holes in the government’s finances. Because we’re easy to target and have no choice. What a bunch of bastards.
I also haven’t received any information from the Student Loan Company in at least two years. So the bastards can’t even be arsed to let me know how much I owe them, yet they’re going to start taking it out of my paycheck anyway. I hate the lot of them.

The worst thing about the long Easter bank holiday weekend?
Going back to work on the Tuesday after.
Even though I quite like my job, I still don’t want to go back to work! Four days just isn’t quite long enough…

I am was 23 today yesterday. It really does make me feel old, even though I know I’m really not. It just feels it.
So I am going went out drinking tonight to drown my sorrows celebrate!
This will probably be my last post until Sunday… I’m gonna be hung over [and leafleting] tomorrow today.
This post was meant to have been made on the morning of the 15th, but circumstances got in the way - hence all the strikeouts.
