I've never needed a basket in a small local corner shop. Yet, I have had to do some emergency avoidance to avoid someone flying around in one.

I'm not saying all people with mobility scooters are hooligans - but the fact remains that some are. I said when I first made this post that supermarkets do not pose a problem - and for any large store with nice wide aisles the same logic applies.

But surely common sense dictates - where the aisles are only just wide enough to fit a scooter down, it's not courteous to try to do it and assume that everyone else will be able to sit in the baked beans to avoid those that try to.

[...] Management consultants have their place, when used sparingly and when listened to. The problem is that they are over-used. And private finance initiatives? They bring private money into the public health system and make it more efficient - because it needs to be efficient to make money - the private system can, after all, perform the same operation for less!
Genius.

...at home will mobilise themselves in other ways (for instance with crutches). I’m sure they could cope with doing the same in the shop...

That will work, simple bound down the isles with your crutches tossing items into the basket. Oh wait, the basket. Maybe the disabled should come with hooks to attach things like shopping baskets to them selves.

I have lived here for over twenty years and I have yet to see a single tangible benefit from devolution. To my mind its all or nothing. Full independence or scrap Holyrood. Their lawmaking is woeful. There is no check, no balance as there is no upper chamber to correct their stupidity. Wee Eck is both my MP and our struggling First Minister. I can't help feeling that none of them know what they are doing. Mind you, it was exactly the same when wee Joke McConnell was at the helm.

This survey holds no surprises.

God help us.

I would happily support devolution, if each nation desires it, but it needs to be either total, ie pay your own way, or not at all. Half-arsed measures such as we currently have in place merely mean an economic inequality in the taxes that we pay and regional parliaments that are essentially trial-runs for the rest of us.

When Kurt Cobain shot himself, my brother was at the local record shop first thing the next morning buying up all the Nirvana 12" picture discs he could lay his hands on. Not CDS in his case, he just knew that they were on sale and fortunately the manager of the shop hadn't heard the news yet. Apparently, the guy was really confused when so many people suddenly came in wanting to buy Nirvana stuff on the same day until someone fatefully said, "Haven't you heard..?"

My brother turned a rather healthy profit on that one. Now, I must see whether my parents still have my old vinyl copy of Bad in the attic..
